Mark begins when Jesus is beginning His ministry. Jesus warns the disciples and the remainder of His followers to beware of their desire to follow the traditions and rules that had been put in place by the Pharisees and social pressure from their current culture. How often do we give into society even when know that is not how God has intended us to live?

- John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus – baptizing and teaching repentance.
- Jesus was baptized by John and the Spirit descended on Him.
- Jesus is tempted in the wilderness.
- After John was arrested, Jesus began proclaiming the gospel in Galilee and called Simon and Andrew, and James and John as disciples.
- While teaching in the temple, Jesus healed a man with an unclean spirit, Simon’s mother in law, and many others.
- Jesus went through Galilee teaching and healing.
- Jesus healed a leper and man whose friends lowered him through a roof to be healed.
- Jesus calls Levi (Matthew), a tax collector to follow Him.
- Jesus is questioned why they aren’t fasting – you don’t fast with the bridegroom.
- Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath.
- Pharisees sought to destroy Jesus because He healed a man on Sabbath.
- Jesus appointed 12 disciples so they could preach and cast our demons: Peter, James, John, Andrew, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thaddeus, Thomas, James, Simon, Judas and Philip.
- Scribes accused Jesus of being prince of demons, Jesus responded that those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, unclean.
- When Jesus’ mother and brothers came to visit, He reminded them that those who do God’s will are family, not just through a relationship.
- Jesus taught by the sea and taught parable of sower -> explains how people understood the gospel.
- Purpose of parables: to teach truth while protecting those who rejected Him.
- Jesus taught parables of lamp under a basket, growing seeds and faith of a mustard seed.
- Jesus and disciples get in a boat to cross the sea a storm arose while Jesus slept. Disciples begged Jesus to save them and He calmed the storm.
- Jesus healed a man with demons by sending them into pigs (who drove over a cliff and drowned). Locals begged Jesus to leave. The healed man asked to go with, but was denied but told to share what God had done.
- Jesus healed a woman who bled, she believed that she would be healed if she could just touch His robes and healed Jarius’s daughter.
- Jesus went home to Nazareth and taught at the temple, but they were rejected His teaching – was just a carpenter.
- Jesus sent out disciples in pairs to heal and cast out demons. Take nothing with them.
- Herod feared John the Baptist but Herodias’s daughter requested his head on a platter and honored it, buried by disciples.
- Jesus taught 5,000 on a hillside and when it became late fed them with 5 loaves and 2 fishes.
- Jesus sent the disciples ahead across and Jesus walked across the water to meet them.
- Pharisees attacked Jesus and disciples for not following traditions, Jesus rebuked them for not following commandments.
- Jesus tells the people that it is not what we put in us that defiles us but what comes from inside us.
- A gentile woman pled with Jesus to cast the demon out of her daughter – she knew even the least get crumbs.
- Jesus healed a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment.
- Jesus was speaking to crowd and knew they were hungry – fed 4,000 with 7 loaves and few fish.
- Jesus tells disciples to be wary of the sins of Pharisees and Herod.
- Peter tells Jesus that he knows Jesus is the Christ.
- Jesus foretold of His death and resurrection.
- those that deny themselves and follow Jesus will gain life.
Help me to remember:
that having faith in Him and following the commandments is more important than the rules and traditions created by man.
Lord, I ask that . . .
I have the faith of the teeny, tiny mustard seed.
Heavenly Father, I am thankful for . . .
the reminder that You provide for my needs even when it seems unlikely.
